Speak
Speak
by Laurie Halse Anderson

★★★
This book deals with some sensitive issues.
The main character, Melinda Sordino, is a selective mute and a terribly depressed teenager due to an incident at a party. Throughout the book she is sad, stressed and isolating herself. I really don't wish to give too much away as I am the type of person who will not even read the blurb on the back of a book but this book delivers an important message. Speak: it is something she must do and something you should read.
This books will be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys deeper stories that explore the real life of a teenager struggling with a life impacting issue. The writing was real, the characters were real and the story was told in a way that will be sitting there, reading and you'll look up hours later and, more than likely, just put your head straight back down to continue reading throughout the night.
